Announcement of New DPNA President Alejandro Vassilaqui

DPNA, December 1, 2006

The Board of Directors of The Drug Prevention Network of the Americas is very proud to announce the election of Alejandro Vassilaqui as the new President of the organization.

"Mr. Vassilaqui is a distinquished and highly respected leader in the drug prevention field nationally and internationally. He brings a wealth of talent experience and wisdom to the position. DPNA is very fortunate to have him at the helm," said Stephanie Haynes, the immediate past President, who has led the organization since 1994.  

Vassilaqui is the executive director of CEDRO which is the premier research and prevention NGO in Peru . CEDRO received The United Nations Civil Society Award in 2004. He is a sociologist, author, frequent speaker, and drug policy expert and advisor.   He is joined by the other newly elected officers of the board, Vice-President Sonita Abrahams from Jamaica , Secretary, Dr. Jack Gilligan, USA , Treasurer Dr. Bruce Payette, USA . 

DPNA is a not for profit corporation committed to the education and prevention of drug abuse in the western hemisphere - a network of Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) from North and South America dedicated to the promotion of effective demand reduction programs and policies throughout the Americas.
